Children's Meeting
From 16th April to the summer break Children’s Meeting will happen every Sunday apart from the 28th May and 4th June. We meet at 10.30am at Cotteridge Quaker (“Friends”) Meeting House. For the first 10 minutes the children and young people join the main meeting for worship (find out more about Quaker worship here).
Our children and young people are aged from zero to about 14 years old. We enjoy a wide range of activities including gardening, crafts, music, cooking and games. We explore issues that we care about like peace and the environment. We children help plan the programme and suggest ideas for activities and topics and help run some of the sessions. Two of us are also on the children’s committee.
We make time each week to share what’s been going on in our lives and think about what’s important to us. We sometimes learn more about Quakers, and think about how we can make the world a better place for everyone.
Upcoming activities – 2023
Saturday 8 July, the Area Meeting Youth Group (for ages 10-15) have a trip to Ackers Adventure followed by a sleepover at Selly Oak meeting house, and the next morning there will be an outdoor, all age, meeting for worship at 10.30am. No Cotteridge children’s meeting on 9 July – you are invited to join us at Selly Oak Meeting instead.
Saturday 22 July (with Thursday 17 August in reserve if it’s rained off) Trip to the Splash Pad in Gheluvelt Park in Worcester.
The Pump House Environment Centre is nearby, close to the River Severn. It has good information on environmental issues. There is also a café and shop.
Canal boat adventure on October 20-22nd ! We are looking forward with delight to repeating last year’s canal boat weekend—details to follow!
Parents and carers are very welcome to stay with their children in children’s meeting, especially if it’s their first time or they are younger. If children are happy to be left, then you are welcome to join in our Quaker meeting for worship, or give us your contact details and stay nearby. All of our leaders and helpers are DBS checked.
Youth Group
We have a youth group for children who are aged 10 plus. This meets on Saturday evenings once a month at different Quaker meeting houses in the area. Activities include games, barbeques, talks, bonfires and trips out.
If you’d like to join us, you’re very welcome to come along any Sunday morning. If you’d like to check what we have planned, or find out more about the youth group, please email cqmclerk@gmail.com.
